Boeing 737-2T5(Adv), registered N270FL, flew for Frontier Airlines (the original 1950-1986 carrier) as part of the Denver-based regional carrier's fleet of 737s supporting domestic routes across the western United States. Original Frontier Airlines built an extensive network connecting smaller western cities to larger hubs before the airline's 1986 merger into what eventually became part of Continental Airlines during the wave of consolidation following U.S. airline deregulation.

Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967.
