Boeing 707-458, manufacturer serial number 18071, registered 4X-ATB, was the aircraft targeted in the foiled hijacking of El Al Flight 219 on September 6, 1970, part of the coordinated Dawson's Field hijackings by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Hijackers Leila Khaled and Patrick Arguello stormed the cockpit shortly after takeoff from Amsterdam; an Israeli air marshal shot and killed Arguello, and Khaled was subdued and later handed to British authorities. The aircraft continued flying for El Al and Arkia for another sixteen years before Boeing donated it to Lufthansa in 1986 to mark 30 years of the airline's postwar service.

Designed as the first American turbine-engined airliner, the 707 was first flown on July 15th, 1954.
