Vickers Viscount 800, serial number 415, entered service with Ansett-ANA as VH-RMG. The aircraft operated domestic routes throughout Australia as part of Ansett-ANA's important fleet of British-built turboprop airliners. Featuring a pressurized passenger cabin and large panoramic windows, the Viscount offered a notably quiet and comfortable flying experience for its era. Powered by four Rolls-Royce Dart turboprop engines, VH-RMG provided reliable short and medium haul performance and helped Ansett-ANA modernize its domestic network during the transition from piston-powered airliners to turbine-powered aircraft.
Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a medium-range pressurized turboprop aircraft, the Vickers Viscount first flew on July 16, 1948. As the world's first turboprop airliner, the Viscount filled a need for passenger transport on less popular routes. The early 630 design could carry 32 passengers, but it was ultimately rejected because of high per-passenger costs that made it impractical for commercial purposes. The redesigned 700 could carry up to 48 passengers, and the later Type 800 "Super Viscount" added an extra 23 passengers for a total of 71. The Viscount remained in airline service until 1985, when it became primarily a charter service aircraft. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
