Boeing 727-286 Advanced, serial number 21374, entered service with Iran Air as EP-IRR. The aircraft joined Iran Air's narrowbody fleet and operated domestic and regional international routes from Tehran to destinations throughout Iran, the Middle East, and neighboring regions. Configured with first class and economy seating, the 727-200 offered useful capacity and excellent performance from a wide variety of airports. Powered by three Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines, EP-IRR became part of Iran Air's long-serving Boeing fleet and remained associated with the carrier well beyond the type's retirement by most major airlines.
