Boeing 707-321, registered N723PA, flew for Pakistan International Airlines, having previously served Pan American World Airways given the "PA" suffix common among former Pan Am aircraft registrations. PIA incorporated secondhand 707s acquired from established Western carriers like Pan Am to build out its long-haul international fleet during the 1960s and 1970s, supporting the airline's growing network connecting Karachi to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, and East Asia during a formative period for Pakistani civil aviation.

Designed as the first American turbine-engined airliner, the 707 was first flown on July 15th, 1954.
