Boeing 767-258(ER), registered 4X-EAC, flew for El Al Israel Airlines as part of the carrier's fleet of 767-200s supporting medium and long-haul international routes connecting Tel Aviv to Europe and beyond. El Al incorporated the 767 into its widebody fleet to complement its larger 747s and later 777s, with several El Al 767s having originated from other operators including French carrier Aeromaritime and Air France before joining the Israeli flag carrier's fleet.

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
