Boeing 757-2J6, registered B-2855, flies for Air China as part of the flag carrier's fleet of 757s supporting domestic Chinese trunk routes from Beijing. Air China's 757 fleet, though smaller than its Boeing 737 and 747 operations, provided the carrier with efficient medium-capacity narrowbody capability for higher-density domestic routes during the 1990s and 2000s, a role later assumed by the carrier's growing Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 fleets as Air China modernized its narrowbody operations.

Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
