Boeing 757-21B, registered B-2802, flew for CAAC, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, as part of the Chinese state aviation authority's early fleet of Western-built narrowbody jets supporting domestic Chinese routes before CAAC's 1987-88 breakup into separate regional carriers including Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern. CAAC's acquisition of the 757 represented an important early step in China's aviation modernization, introducing Western narrowbody technology to the country's domestic network before the industry's decentralization.

Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
