Tupolev Tu-154B, registered RA-85588, flew for Vladivostok Air, the Russian Far East regional carrier, as part of the airline's fleet of Soviet-designed trijets supporting domestic routes across Russia's sparsely populated eastern regions. Vladivostok Air relied on the Tu-154's range and capacity to connect the Russian Far East to Moscow and other major Russian cities across the country's enormous distances, before the carrier's eventual 2013 merger into Aeroflot's regional subsidiary structure.
