Boeing 767-27EER, manufacturer serial number 24832, first flew on June 26, 1990, and was registered F-GHGD, delivered to Aeromaritime (a UTA subsidiary) in July 1990 before transferring to Air France in October 1991 following UTA's absorption into Air France. The aircraft was sold to Balkan Bulgarian Airlines in April 1992 and eventually joined El Al Israel Airlines as 4X-EAE, remaining in service until being placed into storage in May 2013, closing out a 23-year career spanning three airlines and two European aviation groups.

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
