Fokker F27-200 Friendship, construction number 10245, was delivered to Piedmont Commuter as N423SA in the early 1970s to expand the airline's regional network. The aircraft operated short haul routes connecting smaller cities in the eastern United States with Piedmont’s major hubs, including Charlotte, Roanoke, and Greenville. N423SA featured a turboprop configuration with pressurized cabins, offering reliable and efficient service on lower-demand routes. Painted in Piedmont Commuter’s early blue and white livery, the F27 Friendship helped the airline provide frequent service and strengthen regional connectivity. After years of service, N423SA was retired as regional jets gradually replaced turboprop aircraft in commuter operations.
Designed as a pressurized, turboprop medium-range airliner, the F27 was first flown on November 24th, 1955. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
