Boeing 727-227, construction number 20705, was delivered to Braniff International Airways as N403BN in the late 1960s as part of the airline's expansion of its domestic jet fleet. The aircraft operated high frequency routes across the United States, including services to Dallas, Houston, and Miami, as well as select international flights to Mexico and the Caribbean. N403BN featured Braniff's distinctive colorful livery and was configured with a two class cabin, providing both passenger comfort and high capacity. The 727-200 offered strong short runway performance and reliability. After years of service, N403BN was retired as Braniff modernized its fleet with newer aircraft types.
