Douglas DC-8-62, serial number 45912, entered service with Braniff International Airways as N1804. The aircraft joined Braniff's long range fleet and operated international services linking the United States with South America, Hawaii, and other distant destinations. The DC-8-62 combined a stretched fuselage with increased fuel capacity and aerodynamic improvements, giving Braniff excellent intercontinental range. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofan engines, N1804 provided dependable long haul performance and became part of Braniff's famously colorful fleet during one of the most distinctive periods in American commercial aviation.
