Comet 4C, XS235, was ordered by the Ministry of Supply in August 1963 as a flying laboratory for radio, radar and navigation trials with the Aeroplane and Armament Evaluation Establishment at Boscombe Down, Wiltshite. Names "Canopus", it spent all its life with A&AEE to become the last Comet flying, until withdrawl from service in 1997. In October 1997, it was retired and flown to Bruntingthorpe, near Leicester, for preservation by the de Havilland Museum Trust.
Designed as the world's first jet airliner, the de Havilland DH.106 Comet was first flown on July 27th, 1949. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
