KLM Royal Dutch Airlines - just about the world's oldest airline - was formed in 1919 and took delivery of its initial order for nine Super Constellations from June 1953 and commenced services with the type in August that year on the non-stop New York-Amsterdam route, although a refueling stop was necessary on the return service, either at Prestwick or Shannon, due to prevailing winds.

Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation

Designed as a stretched version of the successful Constellation design, the Super Constellation was first flown on October 13th, 1950.

Corgi's 1:144 scale Constellations and Super Connstellations are solidly constructed of diecast metal with only the smallest amount of plastic used. The model's dolphin shaped fuselage and beautifully sculpted nose feature pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. On most models, the solid metal wing has external wing-tip fuel tanks (see photos), a hint of engine detail behind the propellers and simulated de-icing boots on the leading edge. Configuration for ground display is easy with landing gear that installs quickly, and a multi-positional display stand is included for in flight display.
