Junkers Ju 87B Stuka Diecast Model
Luftwaffe 3./StG 2 Immelmann, St.Malo, France, August 1942

1:130 Scale   Length   Width
Junkers Ju 87B Stuka   3.5"   4.25"

Identical to 1.Staffel's 'Kurfurst-Heinrich' in most respects, this aircraft wore the yellow trim and code letter 'L' of 3./StG 2. Also carrying the yellow disc, which once would have shown the Gruppe's scottie dog emblem, 3. Staffel later had chosen to go their own way and opted for the coat of arms of the city of Breslau, their home station in 1937. This particular Ju 87B-1 gained its infamy as it crash landed near Selsey, Sussex on the 'hardest day' of the Battle of Britain (16th August, 1940), after bombing Tangmere. One particular aspect of the decoration on this aircraft to note is the red triangle adjacent to the Staffel emblem. This denotes 87-octane fuel.

Junkers Ju 87B Stuka

Designed to function as a close support aircraft, the Ju 87 was first flown on September 17th, 1935. The Ju 87 had an innovative design that included automatic dive brakes under each wing-a feature that protected against the consequences of pilot blackout by ensuring recovery from an attack dive. Crewed by a pilot and rear gunner, the Ju 87 had twin 37mm cannons and a bomb that swung away from the propeller on an elongated U-shaped crutch. Its inverted gull wings improved pilot-to-ground visibility, gave the undercarriage a shorter height and made the Ju 87 instantly recognizable to its enemies.
