Boeing 767-233ER, serial number 24142, line number 229, delivered new to Air Canada in July 1988 as C-GDSP. The aircraft was noteworthy as the first Air Canada airliner delivered in the short-lived "burgundy stripe" color scheme. The extended-range 767-200ER became an important aircraft for Air Canada, allowing economical twin-engine operation on longer transcontinental and international routes. C-GDSP remained with the carrier for approximately 20 years before being withdrawn in August 2008 and stored at Roswell, New Mexico. It was acquired by Jet Midwest Group in 2012 as N756JM and was subsequently broken up at Roswell.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
