Dragon Models 1:72 Armor Collector Series 60552
Henschel/Porsche Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger Display Model
German Army PzAbt.503, #100, Berlin, Germany, Battle of Berlin, April 1945, (Henschel Turret)

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Henschel/Porsche Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger   4"   2"

Moving the scales at 68 tons, Germany's Kingtiger tank entered combat service in mid-1944. It was an impressive vehicle, and being the final tank type to enter production during WWII, it could be seen as the pinnacle of German tank design. The most common version had the angular Henschel turret that eliminated the frontal shot trap of the original Porsche turret. The Kingtiger was armed with an 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71 gun, and its frontal armor was up to 180mm thick. This formidable fighting machine was embroiled in the final Battle of Berlin, a conflict that raged from 20 April to 2 May 1945. Soviet units remorselessly pummeled the German capital to finally bring the war in Europe to an end. A handful of Kingtigers were involved in this final battle, including vehicles from Pz.Abt.503. Every one of them was lost defending the crumbling heart of the Third Reich.

This new model's a Henschel Production version of the Kingtiger. It features a three-color late-war camouflage scheme that's accurately painted in miniature. In keeping with its late-war use, this model Kingtiger is devoid of any tactical markings except for the large number '100' on the turret sides. This model Kingtiger, backed into a corner in the final act of war in Europe, is a masterpiece of detail and painting.

Henschel/Porsche Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger

Officially designated Panzerkampfwagen VI Sd.Kfz 182, the King Tiger entered service in 1944. This tank carried the awesome tank-killing 88mm main gun and had four-inch armor at its thickest. The system was crewed by five personnel and two machine guns were added for self-defense. The King Tiger's ability to destroy enemy tanks at extreme ranges yet remain impervious to those same tanks made it more than a match for any Allied tank. The sight of a King Tiger on the battlefield was terrifying and did great morale damage to Allied forces.

Dragon's 1:72 scale King Tigers replicate many fine features such as intricate radiator vents, crew hatches and periscope details on the turret and front of hull. Each release features a 360-degree rotating turret and elevating cannon with hollowed muzzle break. Each of the 18 road wheels includes bolt head details that can clearly be seen through the vehicle's tracks, while access panels and torsion bar suspension are reproduced on the model's underside. The series includes the distinctively streamlined early "Porsche" turret and the shell-deflecting, late production "Henschel" design. Some releases also feature a simulated Zimmerit coating on the turret and hull.
