Dragon Models 1:72 Armor Collector Series 60598
Reinmetall Neubaufahrzeug Display Model
German Army PzAbtzbV 40, Norway, 1940

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Reinmetall Neubaufahrzeug   6.25"   1.75"

Germany created many successful medium and heavy tanks such as the Panzer III, Panzer IV, Panther and Tiger. However, the nation's first attempts at creating a heavy tank commenced in the early 1930s. Known as the Neubaufahrzeug ("New Construction Vehicle"), it was not a success, however. Slow-moving and boasting multiple turrets, it was ill equipped for the type of rapid, mobile warfare that Blitzkrieg tactics required. For this reason, only five Neubaufahrzeug heavy tanks were built. Their armament included a 7.5m KwK L/24 main gun, 3.7cm KwK L/45 cannon and two 7.92mm machine guns. The three 25.8-ton series-production tanks (numbers 3-5) that had been built in 1935-36 participated in the 1940 invasion of Norway within a specially formed Panzerabteilung called Pz.Abt.z.b.V.40.

Dragon Armor is offering an impressive 1/72 scale model representing the production tanks. Utilizing research and molds from the previously released plastic kit, this miniature Neubau-Fahrzeug Nr.3-5 is impressive in its early-war camouflage color of panzer gray (dunkelgrau). The camouflage scheme is enhanced with white balkenkreuze markings as well as a distinctive number '10' on the rear of the main turret. This is a fine rendering of the NbFz, and it adds to the Dragon Armor items already available.

Reinmetall Neubaufahrzeug

Designed as a prototype heavy tank for the Wehrmacht, the first Neubaufahrzeug was completed in 1935. The multi-turreted design was out-dated from the beginning. Being large and slow it was unsuitable for Blitzkreig tatics. It was, however, a useful propoganda tool and were shown at the International Automobile Exposition in Berlin in 1939 in bold defiance of the Treaty of Versailles. Only five examples were built, three of which saw action during the German invasion of Norway in 1940. Ultimately though, they had all been scrapped by the end of 1941.
