Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469 (HMLA-469) is a United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California. Activated on June 30, 1981, the squadron operates the AH-1Z Viper and the UH-1Y Venom helicopters. HMLA-469 provides close air support, armed escort, and reconnaissance for Marine ground forces. The squadron, known as the "Vengeance," has seen action in various operations, including Iraq and Afghanistan, delivering critical support in combat and humanitarian missions. Their expertise and versatility underscore their vital role in Marine Corps aviation and expeditionary warfare. Designed to meet an urgent US Army requirement for a helicopter gunship, the Bell AH-1 Cobra-sometimes called The Snake-was first flown on September 7th, 1965. Troop-carrying Hueys depended on the Cobra for fire support; it was fast and very maneuverable, and its narrow 38-inch airframe made for a difficult target. Its main armament was its three-barrel 20mm Gatling gun mounted in a chin turret, but it was also capable of using a variety of other weapons including rocket pods, cannon pods, minigun pods and missiles.
