Boeing 727-227, construction number 20701, was delivered to Braniff International as N408BN in 1973 during the airline's colorful branding era. The aircraft flew domestic and Latin American routes from Braniff's Dallas and Houston hubs, supporting the airline's rapid network expansion throughout the 1970s. N408BN operated in Braniff's bold livery, reflecting the carrier's distinctive marketing and visual identity. In 1976, it was repainted in a striking colorful scheme after Braniff contracted artist Alexander Calder to design a special patriotic livery for the nation's bicentennial. After Braniff ceased operations in 1982, the aircraft was sold to other operators and continued flying for several years. Eventually withdrawn from service and parted out, N408BN remains part of the legacy of Braniff's 727 fleet.
Designed as a smaller, short/medium-ranged complement to the 707, the 727 was first flown on February 9th, 1963. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Gemini's 1:200 scale Boeing 727 series airliners are constructed almost entirely of solid diecast and ready for display right out of the box. The fuselage features a solid all around seamless construction with pad-printed windows and doors, fine photo-etched antennas and glimmering jewel-cut anti-collision lens on top and bottom. Additional features include solid metal wings with finely scaled flap fairings at the rear, simulated heating elements on the wings, fin and stabilators and a separately applied nose wheel landing light lens. The series covers the original 727-100 and the 727-200 variant with its notably larger stretched fuselage.
