McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30, serial number 53526, was delivered to China Northern Airlines as B-2253 in the mid-1990s. The aircraft operated domestic routes across northeastern China, including Shenyang and Dalian, helping modernize the airline's fleet with improved performance and fuel efficiency over older MD-80 models. B-2253 carried the airline's blue and white livery throughout its service. Following China Northern's merger into China Southern Airlines in 2003, the aircraft continued flying under the new operator. It remained in service until China Southern gradually retired the MD-90 from its fleet, marking the end of B-2253's operational career.
