Airbus A320-271N, operated by Lufthansa as D-AING and named "Kerpen." Built at Hamburg with test registration D-AUBG, the aircraft was delivered new to Lufthansa on September 11, 2017. Powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan engines and configured for up to 180 passengers, D-AING has spent its career operating Lufthansa's German domestic and European network. In January 2026, it was repainted in a special 100th anniversary scheme as part of Lufthansa's centennial celebrations. D-AING remains active in 2026, operating from Frankfurt to destinations including London, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Zagreb.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. Gemini's 1:200 scale A320 family are constructed almost entirely of diecast metal and are ready to be displayed right out of the box. The seamlessly constructed fuselage features fine photo-etched metal antennas, jewel cut anti-collision lenses and pad-printed windows and doors that do not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. The series covers the original A320 fuselage, the stretched A321 variant and the shorter A319. Each model features solid metal wings with delicate "sharklet" wingtips and fitted with either Pratt & Whitney or CFM International turbo fan engines with detailed fan blades inside.
