Boeing 727-100, serial number 18271, was delivered to the Eastern Air Lines as N8120N in October 1964 during the height of the airline's rapid jet expansion. Wearing the classic blue "hockey stick" livery, it served on Eastern's busy East Coast and Caribbean routes for more than two decades, becoming a familiar sight at major hubs like Miami, Atlanta, and New York. After Eastern began downsizing its older fleet in the late 1980s, the aircraft was sold to FedEx in 1989 and converted to a freighter as N502FE. It went on to fly cargo operations for years, extending the life of this early 727.

The fuselage features a solid all around seamless construction with pad-printed windows and doors, fine photo-etched antennas and glimmering jewel-cut anti-collision lens on top and bottom. Additional features include solid metal wings with finely scaled flap fairings at the rear, simulated heating elements on the wings, fin and stabilators and a separately applied nose wheel landing light lens. The series covers the original 727-100 and the 727-200 variant with its notably larger stretched fuselage.
