McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30, serial number 53499, was delivered to Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) as HZ-API on 29 June 1998. Powered by two IAE V2528-D5 turbofan engines, it was configured for medium- to long-haul operations, primarily serving domestic and regional routes across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. HZ-API helped modernize Saudia's MD-80 fleet, offering improved fuel efficiency, quieter operations, and enhanced passenger comfort. The aircraft remained in service for over a decade, contributing to the airline's expansion and reliability. Eventually retired and stored, HZ-API was scrapped, marking the end of its operational life while reflecting the gradual phase-out of MD-90s in commercial aviation.
Designed as a stretched and more powerful MD-80, the MD-90 was first flown on February 22nd, 1993. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
