1:200 Scale   Length   Width
Lockheed C-5A Galaxy   15"   13.25"

The 105th Military Airlift Group (MAG) of the New York Air National Guard operated the Lockheed C-5A Galaxy during the 1980s and 1990s. Several aircraft were painted in the standard MAC-era European I camouflage scheme - dark green, medium green, and gray - designed for concealment on the ground and during low-altitude operations. Based at Stewart ANGB, the 105th used these massive airlifters for strategic cargo missions around the globe. The unit's C-5As often featured subdued markings, including tail flashes identifying "New York" or the 105th insignia. These camouflaged Galaxies were a distinctive sight until replaced by newer aircraft in later years.

Lockheed C-5A Galaxy

Designed to meet a USAF requirement for a heavy logistics transport, the C-5 was first flown on June 30th, 1968. The t-tail configuration provides unobstructed access to the large rear loading ramp which, in combination with the massive hinged nose, allows for "drive-through" loading and unloading of cargo. The C-5 is one of the largest military aircraft ever built and its cavernous cargo compartment measures 121 feet long by 19 feet wide and 13.5 feet high. This is in addition to an upper deck with seating for 73 passengers. Current versions of the aircraft are capable of lifting up to 270,000 lbs of cargo.
