No fewer than three squadrons were equipped with the small, agile Alpha Jet in the 1980s. The last squadron to switch to the type was the fighter-bomber squadron based in Husum, Schleswig-Holstein. To support and defend NATO partner Turkey during Operation Desert Storm against Iraq, JaBoG 41 deployed twelve Alpha Jets to Erhac in south-eastern Turkey in early 1991 as part of a NATO mobile intervention force.
Designed as part of a Franco-West German study for an advanced trainer, the Alpha Jet was first flown on November 4th, 1977. © Copyright 2003-2023 The Flying Mule, Inc.
