Lockheed Martin F-35B c/n BF-05 first flew on January 26, 2011. In July 2011 the aircraft went to NAS Patuxent River and began evaluations by VX-23, the USN fighter test center. During August 2013 the aircraft went for Developmental Test Phase II onboard USS Wasp. In September 2014 BF-05 would undergo testing at Eglin AFB's Climatic Lab. In 2016 BF-05 deployed on USS America for DT-III and Operational Testing. September 25, 2018 piloted by Cdr. Nathan Gray BF-05 made its first landing and take off from the carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
Designed to meet the US Military's requirement for a multi-role Joint Strike Fighter, the F-35 was first flown on December 15, 2006. This single-seat fighter is one of the most advanced aircraft of our time, said to be four times more effective at air-to-air combat and eight times more effective at air-to-ground combat than any other existing aircraft. It uses a low-maintenance stealth technology, and some versions have an innovative Lift System, which gives the F-35 vertical take-off and landing capabilities. The US plans to buy a total of 2,443 F-35s at a cost of $323 billion, which makes the F-35 the most expensive defense program in history. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
