In 2011, VAQ-129 Vikings operated the EA-6B Prowler during the US Navy's Naval Aviation Centennial celebrations, marking 100 years of naval aviation history. As the Fleet Replacement Squadron for electronic attack, VAQ-129 trained pilots and electronic countermeasures officers on the EA-6B while also participating in commemorative events. One aircraft received special centennial markings, featuring heritage inspired graphics and distinctive paint elements honoring naval aviation's legacy. The EA-6B provided electronic warfare capability, including radar jamming and suppression of enemy air defenses. VAQ-129's participation highlighted both historical continuity and the ongoing importance of electronic attack in naval operations.
Developed from the EA-6A Electronic Intruder, the EA-6B is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that was first flown on May 25th, 1968. The Prowler is a key element in any USN or USMC strike-force by disrupting and jamming enemy radio and radar signals, providing protection for attacking aircraft as they carry out their mission. The aircraft can also be equipped with anti-radiation missiles desigend to home-in on enemy radar installations and neutralize surface-to-air missile threats. After a long history with the EA-6B, the US Navy began transitioning to the F/A-18G Growler in 2009. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
