Primorsko-Akhtarsk is an air base of the Russian Air Force as part of the 4th Air and Air Defence Forces Army, Southern Military District. Primorsko-Akhtarsk AB has been home to Yeysk aviation school, 960th Training Regiment, 960th Fighter Aviation Regiment and 960th Assault Aviation Regiment. Some of the MiG-29s are former East German aircraft. This Red 32 MiG-29 wears an emblem of the display team "Swifts" that it flies with when not used for active duty. Another marking are the Russian tricolors on the outside of both rudders. Designed to help the Soviet Union attain air superiority, the MiG-29 fighter was first flown on October 6th, 1977. The MiG-29, known as the "Fulcrum," has a high-mounted bubble canopy and twin jet engines with diagonal-shaped air intakes and large exhausts. Its tapered, swept-back wings and boom-mounted tail fins give it its classic look. Armed with medium and short-range missiles and unguided weapons for ground and sea-surface targets, the MiG-29's sight is a helmet-mounted system-the pilot chooses his targets by looking at them.
