The Russian Air Force's MiG-29SMT made a high-profile international appearance at the Dubai Airshow in November 2005, where it represented the most advanced evolution of the famous Fulcrum then available. Two MiG-29SMTs were exhibited: one on static display and another performed daily flight demonstrations, showcasing the aircraft's enhanced agility and multirole capabilities. The SMT upgrade featured a distinctive enlarged dorsal spine housing additional fuel, significantly extending the fighter's range while incorporating the Zhuk-ME multimode radar, a modern glass cockpit, open-architecture avionics, precision-guided weapon capability, and in-flight refueling. The aircraft was displayed as a demonstration of Russia's latest fighter technology and as a centerpiece of MiG's export campaign aimed at existing MiG-29 operators and prospective customers in the Middle East and beyond.

Mikoyan MiG-29SMT Fulcrum-E

Designed to help the Soviet Union attain air superiority, the MiG-29 fighter was first flown on October 6th, 1977. The MiG-29, known as the "Fulcrum," has a high-mounted bubble canopy and twin jet engines with diagonal-shaped air intakes and large exhausts. Its tapered, swept-back wings and boom-mounted tail fins give it its classic look. Armed with medium and short-range missiles and unguided weapons for ground and sea-surface targets, the MiG-29's sight is a helmet-mounted system-the pilot chooses his targets by looking at them. Even today the Fulcrum remains a potent adversary, and will remain in service for at least another decade.
