On May 21, 2014 at RAF Coningsby two aircraft that would take part in the 70th Anniversary of D-Day were revealed. The Eurofighter Typhoon II ZK308 and Spitfire Mk. IX MK356/5J-K, were both wearing the iconic black and white stripes associated with this historic event. Typhoon II FGR.4 ZK308 from 29 (R) Squadron was coded TP-V MN-526 of the 198 Squadron as a tribute to the Hawker Typhoons of WWII. These special painted aircraft along with others, took part in the Duxford Air Show held on May 24, 2014. Designed as part of a co-operative effort by Germany, Italy and the UK to produce an air superiority fighter, the Eurofighter was first flown on March 27th, 1994. The Eurofighter is a single-seat, twin-engine, agile combat aircraft used in air-to-air, air-to-ground and tactical reconnaissance roles. It is intentionally aerodynamically unstable, which gives it its high levels of agility-but this means the Typhoon is controlled by a computerized "fly by wire" system instead of by its pilot.
