Lockheed U-2S Dragon Lady, manufacturer serial number (Article) 051, was registered as 68-10329 with the U.S. Air Force's 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale AFB, California. It is the prototype U-2R: flying as N803X, it made the type's first flight on 28 August 1967 with Lockheed test pilot Bill Park at the controls and carried out most of the 1967-68 test programme, reportedly becoming the first U-2 to fly with underwing superpods. It is also reported to have served the CIA-supervised Taiwanese 'Black Cat' programme as ROCAF 3925 before joining the 9th Wing and being re-engined to U-2S standard with the GE F118 in the mid-1990s, making it among the oldest airframes in the fleet the Air Force planned to retire in fiscal 2026.
Designed as a long-range, high-altitude reconnaisance aircraft, the U-2 was first flown on August 4th, 1955. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
