On August 1, 1941 1Lt. Hans “Hasse” Wind joined 4/LeLv 24 and on March 29, 1942 he became an ace. In August 1942 Wind was transferred to 1/LeLv 24 and was assigned Brewster Model 239 BW-393 “White 7”. On November 10 1942 Wind took command of the flight until January 15,1943. On May 27, 1943 he was transferred to 3/LeLv 24 and was promoted to Captain on October 19, 1943. At this point in time Capt. Wind's BW-393, now “Red 9” had 29 victories marks on the tail. In October 1944 the aircraft was destroyed in a Soviet bombing raid. He finished with a total of 302 combat sorties, racking up 75 kills. 39 kills came flying a Brewster Model 239 and 36 kills were accomplished flying a Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 numbered MT-439.

Brewster F2A Buffalo

Designed to meet a 1936 US Navy requirement for a new carrier-based fighter, the F2A was first flown in December, 1937. The stout F2A Buffalo was the U.S. Navy's first monoplane fighter, but it suffered from poor maneuverability and proved to be too heavy for dogfighting. Its four 12.7mm machine guns weren't even enough to save this aircraft-during the Battle of Midway, 13 of 19 Buffalos were lost to enemy fire. Finland proved to be the only successful user of the Brewster F2A Buffalo, fighting off wave after wave of Soviet aggression during three years of war.

Hobby Master's 1:48 scale F-2A Buffalo is a well-constructed diecast model that can be displayed right out of the box with only a small amount of configuration. The large framed cockpit window with sliding canopy provides a clear view of many cockpit features, including pad-printed gauges and dials, tube gun sight and control stick with painted stick grip. The correctly rendered interior bottom floor opens through to large navigational window on the bottom of the fuselage. The hinged metal landing gear has an easily-installed single center mounted bracket for ground display and there are separately applied landing lights under each wing.
