This aircraft is W.Nr. 681382 flown by Hauptmann Wilhelm Moritz and is painted with a "Black Double Chevron" (denoted a Gruppenkommandeur). Moritz was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of IV.(Sturm)/JG 3 on 18 April 1944. The Gruppe specialized in anti-bomber operations flying heavily armoured and armed single-engined fighters. In July 1944 he was awarded the Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross) and on October 1st, he was promoted to the rank of Major. However on December 5th, Moritz had a nervous breakdown and was relieved from command of IV.(Sturm)/JG 3. Over the length of his career Moritz flew more than 500 missions and credited with 44 victories.

Focke-Wulf Fw 190A

Designed by Kurt Tank, the Fw-190A was first flown on June 1st, 1939. This small, yet ferociously-powered aircraft was fast and maneuverable and packed a fierce armament package earning it the nickname "Butcher Bird". The wide landing gear, excellent visibility and high-altitude paddle-bladed propeller endeared it to pilots familiar with the shortcomings of its predecessor - the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Some of the Luftwaffe's most famous fighter aces flew the Fw 190. Many variants were produced during the war, with the most notable being the inline-engine equipped and longer-nosed 190D, known as the "Dora."

Hobby Master's 1:48 scale Fw 190 is a quality model, assembled with exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Among this model's features are a solid metal wing with simulated fabric-stretched control surfaces, a 12-bladed cooling fan that spins in unison with the propeller, cylinder head cooling fins that are visible inside the cowling, individual exhaust stacks, removable center mounted fuel tank and a sliding canopy that reveals pad printed dials and gauges inside the cockpit. Variants in this series include the early 190A, the upgraded 190A with armor plating, and the 190F attack variant with larger canopy and removable center-mounted bombs.
