D-ALYL was a Ju 52/3M ge c/n5180 named "Hans Loeb" delivered to Lufthansa in 1935. The XI Olympiad Games were held in Berlin in 1936 so prior to this event the aircraft was painted with the Olympic rings. In 1937 the aircraft was operated by OELAG an Austrian airline and registered as OE-LAR "Linke Crawford". In January 1939 the aircraft returned to Lufthansa and again became D-ALYL "Hans Loeb". In August 1939 the aircraft was taken over by the Luftwaffe as NG+VY and later changed to 17+RV.

Junkers Ju 52

The Ju-52 entered service in April 1931 as a troop transport and bomber. During the Spanish Civil War, it ferried troops from Morocco to Spain and dropped some 6,000 tons of bombs. The three-engine Ju-52 served as a 17-passenger airliner for many nations, most famously with the German Lufthansa. Nicknamed "Iron Annie," the Ju 52 was built of strong corrugated metal. For air defense and tactical ground support it was armed with multiple machine guns and was fitted with bomb racks capable of carrying 3,307 lbs of bombs. During WWII, 5,000 Ju-52s served in all fronts in a variety of roles, from troop transport to mine-laying.

Hobby Master's 1:144 scale Ju 52 requires no configuration and is ready for display right out of the box. The model is constructed almost entirely of diecast metal with only the smallest amount of plastic used. Both the cockpit and side fuselage windows are transparent, a feature generally not seen in this scale. Radial engine detail is present inside each of the three engine cowlings with delicate engine exhaust pipes clearly seen on the nose of the model. Additional features include the distinctive toed-out wing mounted engines, separately applied antennas behind the cockpit and finely replicated corrugated metal skin that is noticeable to the touch.
