Dassault Rafale EI was registered as T-0318 with the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU), a single-seat F4-standard Rafale assigned to Skadron Udara 12 'Black Panthers' of the 6th Air Wing at Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base, Pekanbaru, Sumatra. Indonesia announced its 42-aircraft, $8.1 billion Rafale order on 10 February 2022, activating contracts for six aircraft in September 2022 and eighteen more in August 2023, with deliveries planned in three phases. The first two-seaters landed at Pekanbaru on 23 January 2026, opening Rafale operations; the single-seaters that follow are expected to replace the TNI-AU's ageing F-16s and Sukhoi Su-27/Su-30 Flankers as the core of its fighter force. Designed as a result of the ACX (Avion de Combat Experimentale) program prior to France's withdrawl from the EFA project, the Rafale was first flown on July 4th, 1986. The Rafale is multi-role fighter for the Franch Air Force and Navy, capable of handling missions from reconnaissance to air supremacy to nuclear deterrence. The Rafale built on Dassault's expertise with delta-winged fighter design, adding a forward canard to improve maneuverability and reduce approach speeds for carrier operations. The Rafale's advanced avionics and and limited stealth capabilities are expected to secure it as the primary combat aircraft for the French Air Force and Navy until at least 2040. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
