The MiG-31BM, a modernized variant of the MiG-31B, was approved for Russian Air Force service after passing state testing in 2008. Fifty aircraft were upgraded under a 2011 contract, with overall efficiency increased 2.6 times over the base model. Its radar can detect targets up to 320 km, automatically track up to 24, and engage eight simultaneously with R-33S missiles. The Baget 55-06 computer prioritizes targets, while the new R-37 missile extends engagement to 400 km at Mach 6. Multi-role capable, the MiG-31BM can employ anti-radar, air-to-ship, and air-to-ground missiles, features avionics shared with the MiG-29SMT, and includes aerial refueling.
Designed as an enhanced version of the MiG-25, the MiG-31 was first flown on September 16th, 1975. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
