The debate over whether or not the RAF used the Austin Tilly rages on. Some say the RAF never used the Austin variant, some say the RAF used a few that had been redirected from other branches of the military. Some also say the RAF did use Austin Tillies but they weren’t painted RAF blue-grey until just after WWII. Any way you look at it the Austin Tilly in RAF blue-grey makes sense since this variant was the most produced out of the 4 companies.
Designed as a 4x2 Light Utility Vehicle, the Tilly was produced in the tens of thousands for the British military during WWII. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:48 scale Austin Light utility car or "Tilly" is constructed almost entirely in diecast metal with very little plastic components. Each release features a separately applied shovel and spare tire mounted to the top of the cab and delicate front and rear bumpers. Most releases include a removable simulated rear canvas cargo cover (see photos) for easy viewing of the right hand side driver controls and pad-printed instrument panel and rear seats. Additional features include separately applied headlights and bridge plate (most models) up front and subtle details of a left hand side signal flag just forward of the cab door.
