This DC-7 was MSN 831 originally delivered to KLM on March 7, 1957 as PH-DSH. In March 1963 the aircraft was purchased by Sudflug International and operated as D-ABAC until 1968 when the airline went bankrupt. The DC-7 went on to be registered as VR-BCW and N9498. In 1974 N9498 was confiscated because it had been gunning-running during the Biafran War in the late 1960’s. The final registration was HB-SSA located at the Geneva International Airport Switzerland where it was used for fire fighting practice until November 2006 then broken up.
Designed to meet an American Airlines requirement for a long-range passenger airliner with superior performance to the Lockheed Super Constellation, the DC-7 was first flown on May 18th, 1953. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
