Airbus A340-541, manufacturer serial number 698, registered HS-TLC, was delivered to Thai Airways International in October 2005 as part of the carrier's fleet of four A340-500s acquired for ultra-long-haul nonstop routes to North America. Thai withdrew HS-TLC from passenger service in June 2012 amid the type's poor fuel economics, but unlike its three sister aircraft, HS-TLC found a second life when the Royal Thai Air Force acquired it in May 2016, re-registering the aircraft HS-TYV for VIP and government transport duties, making it the only one of Thai's four A340-500s to escape long-term storage or scrapping.
