Boeing 747-131, registered N53111, flew for Trans World Airlines (TWA) as part of the carrier's substantial fleet of 747-100s delivered starting in 1970 to support TWA's long-haul domestic and transatlantic network from its New York JFK and St. Louis hubs. TWA operated more than a dozen 747-100s through the 1970s, 80s, and into the 90s, with most aircraft from this delivery batch serving over twenty years before being scrapped, as TWA gradually transitioned toward more fuel-efficient widebody types ahead of the airline's eventual 2001 acquisition by American Airlines.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
