Airbus A330-243, serial number 521, entered service with Air Italy as EI-GGP. The aircraft joined the airline's long haul fleet in the late 2010s as part of its strategy to expand international operations from Milan. It operated routes to destinations in North America and Asia while offering business class and economy seating with modern passenger amenities. Powered by Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines, the A330-200 provides strong range, reliability, and efficient performance for long haul routes. EI-GGP served as part of Air Italy's expanding fleet before the airline ceased operations in 2020.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
