Boeing 757-23N, serial number 27976, entered service with American Trans Air as N520AT. The aircraft became part of ATA's fleet serving scheduled and charter routes across the United States as well as leisure destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico. Configured with a high capacity passenger cabin, the 757-200 provided strong range and operational flexibility for both charter and scheduled services. Powered by Rolls Royce RB211 engines, the aircraft delivered reliable performance and efficient operation on medium and long haul flights. N520AT served with ATA until the airline ceased operations in 2008.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
