Boeing 777-222ER, manufacturer serial number 30222, registered N218UA, flies for United Airlines wearing the carrier's Star Alliance special livery, reflecting United's status as one of the five founding members of the global airline alliance. As part of United's original 777-200ER order delivered between 1997 and 2002, N218UA belongs to a fleet whose flagship aircraft, N777UA - the world's first-ever 777 delivered, entering service in May 1995 - was sent into storage in late 2025 after 30 years of continuous service amid Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine supply issues. United continues flying its remaining 777-200ERs on domestic trunk routes and transatlantic service from hubs including Washington Dulles, though the fleet's retirement is approaching as United's growing order of Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 787s prepares to take over its long-haul international network in the coming years.

Boeing 777-200ER

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection. Standard varients have a range of 4,200 nautical miles while Extended Range (ER) variants can fly for 6,600 nautical miles and the Longer Range (LR) variant is the world's longest range airliner capable of flying 7,800 nautical miles.
