Lockheed L-1011-385-3 TriStar 500, serial number 193H-1207, operated by Air Canada as C-GAGH and fleet number 553. Delivered new in 1981, it was one of six long-range L-1011-500s acquired by Air Canada to supplement its earlier TriStars. C-GAGH operated major international services, including transatlantic routes linking Canada with London, Frankfurt, Glasgow and other European destinations. Air Canada's six L-1011-500s were sold to Delta Air Lines in 1991, with C-GAGH becoming N766DA on January 23, 1992. It continued flying with Delta until being withdrawn at Victorville in 2000 and was eventually scrapped in 2013.
Designed to meet an American Airlines requirement for a wide-bodied transport, the L-1011 was first flown on November 16th, 1970. The general layout and three-engined configuration is very similar to the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, with which the L-1011 was designed to compete. It was the first widebody airliner to receive FAA certification for zero-visibilty autolanding using an Inertial Navigation System based autopilot.
