Boeing 737-824, registered N36272, flew for United Airlines wearing a special "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" livery, unveiled on November 7, 2019, ahead of the film's December 2019 release. The design split the aircraft down the middle, with First Order spacecraft, a red winglet, and a red lightsaber on the right side representing the dark side, and Resistance spacecraft, a blue winglet, and a blue lightsaber on the left representing the light side. United flew the aircraft on domestic routes and to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean for roughly two years under a partnership with Disney and Lucasfilm before repainting it back into standard United livery in late 2021 once the promotional contract expired. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world.
