US Navy Fighter Squadron 113 (VF-113) Stingers was established on July 15th, 1948 at NAS San Diego, flying the F8F Bearcat. In Mach 1950, the squadron transitioned to the F4U Corsair and flew combat missions in Korea from the USS Philippine Sea. After two combat tours in Korea, the squadron was moved to NAS Miramar and began flying the F9F-1 Panther in 1952 and later the F9F-8 Cougar when it was re-designated Attack Squadron 113 (VA-113) in 1956. The Stingers saw combat once more when they were later deployed to Vietnam, first aboard the USS Kitty Hawk and then later aboard the USS Enterprise where they upgraded to the A-4F Skyhawk. After returning to the US in 1968, the squadron transitioned to the A-7 Corsair II and was soon sent back to Vietnam aboard the USS Ranger. After 17 years with the A-7, the Stingers adopted the F/A-18C Hornet in 1984 and was redesignated Strike Fighter Squadron 113 (VFA-113). In 2016, the Stingers made the last operational flight of the legacy Hornet before upgrading to the F/A-18E Super Hornet that it still flies today from its current homebase of NAS Oceana, Virginia.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Vought A-7E Corsair II

Designed as a longer-range, higher-payload replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk, the A-7 Corsair II was first flown on September 27th, 1965. This aircraft entered service during the Vietnam war and later became one of only a few US Navy aircraft to serve with the US Air Force. It possessed cutting edge technologies; it was one of the first aircraft to use a turbofan engine, an internal navigation system and a "head-up" display. Late in its career, A-7s were used for pilot training and were parked outside of hangars in order to draw the attention of Soviet spy satellites away from the fledgling F-117.
