Marine Composite Squadron 2 (VMC-2) was formed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point on September 15, 1952 flying the AD-5 Skyraider. The Squadron was redesignated Marine Composite Jamming Squadron 2 (VMCJ-2) in 1955, flying the EF-10B Skyknight. VMCJ-2 provided intelligence during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and in 1965 it upgraded to the EA-6A Electric Intruder. It deployed to Vietnam several times with the Intruder and in 1975, the squadron was once again redesignated, this time as Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 2 (VMAQ-2). The squadron upgraded their aircraft once again in 1977 to the EA-6B Prowler. After several deployments to the Middle East in the 1990s and 2000s, the squadron made the last ever USMC Prowler deployment in 2018 before returning the Cherry Point. The squadron was finally decommissioned on March 8th, 2019.

Grumman EA-6B Prowler

Developed from the EA-6A Electronic Intruder, the EA-6B is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that was first flown on May 25th, 1968. The Prowler is a key element in any USN or USMC strike-force by disrupting and jamming enemy radio and radar signals, providing protection for attacking aircraft as they carry out their mission. The aircraft can also be equipped with anti-radiation missiles desigend to home-in on enemy radar installations and neutralize surface-to-air missile threats. After a long history with the EA-6B, the US Navy began transitioning to the F/A-18G Growler in 2009.

JC's 1:72 scale EA-6B in an ambitious model with a significant number of configurable options. The fuselage is constructed mostly from diecast metal with smaller details made from plastic. Configurable components include weapons and extended/retracted landing gear as well as numerous opening access panels and extended/folded wing options. The weapons and landing gear attach with small magnets rather than press-fit plastic tabs and slots. Not only does this make configuration and reconfiguration easy, it reduces the risk of parts being damaged if the model is disturbed or mishandled once displayed.
