In December 2004 VF-103 "Jolly Rogers" returned from a deployment and retired their F-14Bs for the newer F/A-18F Super Hornet. In 2005, along with the new aircraft came a new designation for the "Jolly Rogers", VFA-103. On May 22, 2018 VFA-103 was assigned to USS Abraham Lincoln CVW-7. The CAG aircraft, F/A-18F Super Hornet (BuNo 168493) received special markings to celebrate the squadron's 75th Anniversary (1943 - 2018). The inner part of the left fin lists the squadrons that have been "Jolly Rogers" over the years.

Designed as a replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk and the A-7 Corsair II and as a complement to the F-14 Tomcat, the F/A-18 first flew on November 18, 1978. Perhaps best known as the aircraft of the US Navy's Blue Angels, this carrier-capable, supersonic, all-weather fighter has many roles, including fighter escort, fleet air defense and close air support. The F/A-18 is a versatile aircraft: it can operate from carriers or land bases and a single switch converts it from fighter to strike mode. JC's 1:72 scale F/A-18 series includes the single-seat F/A-18C, the two-seat F/A-18D Hornet and the more modern single-seat F/A-18E and two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet. Witty's has taken steps to make this model one of the finest on the market, and one of this mold's highlights is a correct hydraulic actuator, which supports a canopy that is made of very clear, thin plastic. Other details include movable elevators, a deployable speed brake that can be held open with the hinged hydraulic actuator, detailed landing gear struts, doors and wells, and independently hinged stabilators and rudders that remain firmly in place when adjusted.
